Introduction

The biggest feature of Indian astrology is that it is a Pratayksha Shastra. In this scripture, Pratyaksha means "showing the apparent planets as they are done by mathematics. Our ancient mathematicians have resorted to the process of perforation since ancient times to give direct form to the mathematical principles of the apparent planetary-eclipse-planetary origin. In the five principles of Varahamihira and the texts of scholars like Lalla, Shripati, Bhaskaracharya and Kamalakarbhatta, there is a chapter called Triprashnadhikar, in which we can know about Dik-desha-kaal with the help of Shanku.

The process of observing the planets through the instruments arranged in the scriptures is called 'Vedha' and the place where all these instruments are installed together and the movement of the planets is continuously checked is called 'observatory'. First time, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh built such observatories at Jaipur, Delhi, Mathura, Ujjain and Kashi. The observatories built by him are famous by the name Jantar Mantar. In all these observatories, the astrologers of that time along with their disciples researched the principles of 'planet-mathematics' through the process of observatories. All these observatories are made of stone, which have now expanded chronologically.

In the continuation of this expansion, the construction of the observatory was started at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, New Delhi to propagate the process of perforation in this era and to bring the truth of astrology to the common people. It is fortune of the University that for this work we got the services of astrologer Shri Kalyan Dutt Sharma in the construction of observatories. He has built, tested and modified the instruments of the University observatory night and day. In this work, Dr. Shukdev Chaturvedi, Head of the Department of Astrology and Dr. Omkarnath Chaturvedi, Professor of the Department of Astrology, Pt. Shri Shardanivas Shastri, Pt. Shri Ramdev Jha and Prof. Prem Kumar Sharma, etc. cooperated with great dedication and promptness from time to time. The following instruments have been built in this observatory -

  1. Nadivalaya Yantra
  2. Myamottariyuriyantra
  3. Samrat Yantra
  4. Shanku Yantra
  5. India Taratnam
  6. Chakra Yantra
  7. Meteorological
  8. revolution
  9. Kark, Makra, Tula valayaYantra
  10. Shatanthyantra
